Dear Abuser,

I am writing this letter on behalf of someone who once stood in the shadow of your control, manipulation, and harm.

Someone who believed your words, felt the weight of your actions, and carried the pain you inflicted.

But today, they are no longer your victim.

Today you are far less relevant that you could imagine.

They are thriving, healing, and reclaiming their life—and I am honored to witness their transformation. I’d like to share it with you, because why not? Maybe it will inspire you.

You likely carry wounds of your own. Hurt people hurt people. The cycle of pain you perpetuated didn’t begin with you; it began with someone who hurt you, someone who taught you to respond to pain with control, to weakness with power, to vulnerability with aggression.

That person, the one who abused you, won in some ways. They created another abuser. But their victory ends here, because the person you tried to break has chosen to end the cycle.

Your victim has become a victor.

They are stronger than the pain you inflicted.

They have worked tirelessly to understand, heal, and rise above the scars you left. They see you now—not as a monster, but as a person who chose not to face their own pain and instead inflicted it on others.

But they are not like you.

They have made the courageous choice to confront their wounds, to rewrite their story, and to build a life that is no longer tethered to your actions. They have chosen growth, resilience, and forgiveness—not to absolve you, but to release the hold you had on their life.

And let me tell you what that looks like:

They have reclaimed their power, including their financial independence.

You may have tried to control them with money or left them in financial chaos, but today, they are empowered.

They are earning, saving, investing, and thriving in ways you could never imagine.

Every dollar they’ve saved, every choice they’ve made to rebuild their stability, is a testament to their strength.

They are no longer stuck.

They are no longer bound by your manipulation or your attempts to make them feel small.

They’ve discovered a freedom that you may never know—a freedom that comes from facing their pain, from taking accountability for their own healing, and from refusing to carry the shame you tried to place on them.

The person you tried to break has outgrown you.

I often wonder if you realize what you’ve lost. You could have chosen a different path.

You could have faced your own pain, sought healing, and broken the cycle.

Instead, you chose to stay small, to avoid the hard work of growth, and to harm others in your refusal to confront yourself.

That was your choice, and it’s one you’ll have to live with.

The person who abused you clearly won because you decided to repeat the pattern.

What a pitiful legacy.

But here’s the truth: Your former victim is no longer defined by your failures.

They have a legacy that would make you squirm.

They’ve decided to turn their pain into purpose, their scars into strength, and their past into a foundation for a brighter future.

And let me be clear—this letter isn’t about you.

It’s about them. It’s about honoring their courage, their resilience, and their refusal to let your actions determine their destiny.

They don’t need your apology, and they don’t need your acknowledgment. There’s no “closure” needed. I don’t care if you are a parent or adult child, stranger, boss, ex-spouse, sibling, or whatever other ridiculous role you think gave you the liberty to be a toxic emotional landfill.

What they have now is so much greater:

  • Freedom from your control.
  • Strength forged in the fires of adversity and Health returned.
  • Financial empowerment ensures they’ll never be stuck again.
  • Peace, knowing that they have risen above what you tried to make them.

The cycle of pain ends here.

They are not like you. I know you think that’s a compliment for your self-centered image –that I know– and you know – is just covering a weak character.

They are not like you in that they are strong.

They have chosen to break free, to heal, and to thrive. And while you remain bound by the patterns you refuse to confront, they are creating a life filled with love, purpose, and abundance.

I stand beside them in this journey, not just as their therapist, but as someone who deeply admires the bravery it takes to reclaim a life that others tried to take.

They are an inspiration—a testament to what happens when someone chooses healing over hate, growth over bitterness, and freedom over fear.

You no longer have power over them.

They are free, and they are whole.

Sincerely,
The Therapist You’ll Never Meet That Knows You All Too Well.
