In business, especially in fields like fintech, attending networking conferences is often seen as essential for growth and opportunity. While I recognize the value these events bring, I’ve usually chosen not to attend—and not because I’m shy, disinterested, or lacking ambition. It’s a conscious choice rooted in deep self-awareness and alignment with my values.

Also, because I spent enough years in these types of events and, well, been there, done that.

Protecting My Energy and Focus
Networking conferences can be exciting, but they can also be overwhelming and distracting. The noise of these events can distract from the deeper work I value.

By not attending, I protect my energy and ensure that my time is spent on what truly matters—building lasting relationships, honing my craft, and focusing on personal and professional growth at a sustainable pace.

Intentional Relationships Over Quantity
In our fast-paced, digital world, we’re often told that more connections equals more success. I beg to differ. The relationships that have brought the most value to my life and career didn’t come from speed networking or exchanging business cards in a packed conference hall.

They were born out of mutual respect, authenticity, and shared purpose. I’ve found that cultivating a few, meaningful relationships is far more potent than collecting a long list of contacts.

Trusting in Organic Growth
Success doesn’t always come from attending the right event at the right time.

Sometimes, it’s about trusting the process, believing in the power of your work, and letting opportunities arise organically.

By focusing on doing my best work every day, I know that the right people will find their way to me—and I to them.

Empowering Others to Do the Same
In today’s business culture, there is immense pressure to attend every conference, event, and opportunity that comes our way.

But it’s okay to step back and say, “This isn’t for me.” You can still be successful, ambitious, and connected without constantly appearing in spaces that don’t align with your energy.

So, while I may not attend every fintech conference, I’m perfectly okay with that.

I choose to build my network and grow my career in ways that feel authentic to who I am, and that has brought me fulfillment and success in ways that work for me.

I don’t feel the need to “grow” that much at this juncture; don’t get me wrong- learning is always part of the equation. I’m more at a space where I’m refining vs growing.

In the end, what matters most is staying true to yourself.

And if that means skipping the next big networking event, then confidently embrace that choice. You are enough, and your success will follow the path that’s meant for you.

Here’s to knowing yourself, trusting your journey, and making choices that align with your values.
